Sophomores help RC win State Championship!

The Roselle Catholic Boys’ Indoor Track team recently ended a 42 year title drought with their State title on February 19. The Indoor Track team has won state titles in 1965, 1967 and 1969, but none since, and the boys win shows how hard they have worked all year and what a bright future they have ahead of them. Aside from the boys breaking the losing streak, they also set a group record. The boys set a Non-Public B meet record point total in an 89-62 victory over runner-up and defending champion St. Rose. This point total is the most ever scored by a team in the Non-Public B Group and also the second most points scored in any state meet in New Jersey state history (not just Non-Public B), behind the number seven team in the nation, CBA, with 99 points. This is a great accomplishment being that the boys accomplished this with only 11 members while CBA had over 30 in the meet and 97 members on their entire team.

The boys scored in eight of the ten events and were led by junior Mike Marcano, who won the 400 in 52.83, the 55 dash in 6.72 and split 53.0 as the anchor on the winning 4x400 relay team. Also leading the way to victory was senior Tyler Boscia who placed second in both the mile (4:37) and two-mile (10:16). Others who helped pick up points include Christian Brown in the 55 dash placing fifth in 7.11, placing second in the 400 in 53.21 and placing second in the pole vault in 10ft; Matt Boscia placed fifth in the mile in 4:43; Patrick Newman placed sixth in the mile in 4:48 and third in the 800 in 2:03; Kevin Drastura who placed sixth in the 800 in 2:09; Sean Kip who placed fourth in the two mile in 10:20; Alex Almeida who placed second in the shot put in 46-10; Nick Derosa who placed fourth in 42-11; and the 4x400 team (consisting of Mike Marcano, Christian Brown, Patrick Newman, and Victor Porsenna) to place first and set a school record of 3:37.
Congratulations to the Boys Indoor Track Team on their Non-Public B State Title!

A letter from our new Presidents

As the rest of you may know, the results of Tuesday's elections have lead to a tie between us, Matthew Boscia and Mary Angelique Demetillo. However, instead of holding another election, we have come up with an alternate solution. We have spoken to Mr. Bauer and proposed the idea that it would be to the class' benefit that we share the position and become co-presidents. That way, we would have not only one person, but two people to work and organize class events. In addition, we have asked our fellow candidate, Elizabeth Salmi, to take the role of vice president. With the three of us working together, we would be able to share the work and get things done more efficiently; so that you would be able to enjoy your sophomore experience to it's fullest. Also this way your ideas, opinions, and concerns could be more suitably because there are 3 different, but cooperative, leaders you can turn to.
Everyone will always have someone to talk to, and please do not be afraid to approach one of us. We think this will truly help the class. No matter who you may have voted for on Tuesday will have a position for our class government. Thank you all for your cooperation, we are looking forward to taking the lead in having a great year.
-Matt Boscia and Angelique Demetillo
